What is Build Time?

Last modified: July 31st, 2026

On this page

Build Time is the total time CloudCannon spends building your Sites, measured cumulatively across every build in a month.

CloudCannon runs a build whenever your Site's content or configuration changes. The time each build takes counts toward your Build Time, so larger Sites and more frequent builds use more of it.

Most Subscription Plans include unlimited Build Time. On Subscription Plans with a Build Time limit, each plan includes a set amount each month. For the amount included in each Subscription Plan, see the CloudCannon pricing page.

What happens if I reach my Build Time limit?#

If your Organization needs more Build Time than your Subscription Plan includes, you can enable Overages. CloudCannon then keeps building beyond your included amount and bills you for the extra in fixed-size bundles.

If Overages are disabled and you reach your limit, CloudCannon stops running builds for the remainder of the month or until you enable Overages. You can still save your changes, but they will not build. For more information, please read our documentation on what Add-Ons and Overages are.

Track your Build Time#

You can monitor your Build Time on the Usage tab, which shows your cumulative usage over the current month alongside your included limit. Checking it regularly helps you see when you are approaching your limit and decide whether to enable Overages, add capacity, or change your Subscription Plan.

A screenshot of the Usage tab on the Site Dashboard shows the Bandwidth and Build Time graphs and tables.

You can find usage in two places: the Usage tab on your Site Dashboard shows a single Site, and the Usage tab on your Organization Home page shows every Site in your Organization.
