What are Add-Ons and Overages?

Last modified: October 8th, 2026

On this page

Every Subscription Plan includes a set number of Seats, along with a set amount of Custom Domains, Build Time, and Hosting Bandwidth. If your Organization needs more than your Subscription Plan provides, you can pay for more resources. For more information about the cost of Add-Ons and Overages, please see the CloudCannon pricing page.

You can extend your Subscription Plan limits and resources in two ways:

  • Add an additional Seat or Custom Domain (called Add-Ons)
  • Enable Overages to remove Build Time and Hosting Bandwidth limits and pay for what your Organization uses
A screenshot of the Your Subscription Plan page shows the Overages toggle, plan resources, and estimated bill.

You can extend each of these resources:

  • Seats — Add capacity for the people and Sites that use your Organization. Each Organization Member uses one Seat, as does each person you invite to a single Site through Site Sharing. Each Site with Guest Access enabled uses one Seat, however many Guests share its Guest Password.
  • Custom Domains — Add additional Custom Domains to your Organization, which you can connect to any number of Sites. This includes your apex domain and any subdomains (e.g., jetstream.com, www.jetstream.com, shop.jetstream.com) but not subpaths (e.g., jetstream.com/blog).
  • Build Time — Allow your Organization Members to spend more time on Site builds, in 1-hour bundles rounded up to the next full bundle. This only applies to Subscription Plans that limit Build Time.
  • Hosting Bandwidth — Allow your Sites to serve additional website traffic, in 100 GB bundles rounded up to the next full bundle.

For more information on these topics in general, please read our documentation on what Organization Members are, what Custom Domains are, what Build Time is, and what Hosting Bandwidth is.

CloudCannon will prompt you to attach a payment method to your Organization before you can use Add-Ons or Overages.

How do Add-Ons work?#

There is no button to purchase Add-Ons. Instead, CloudCannon automatically adds them to your Subscription Plan when you add an Organization Member to your Organization or connect a Custom Domain to your Organization. Enabling Guest Access on a Site also uses a Seat. When adding any of these resources would put you over your Subscription Plan's limits, CloudCannon shows the Confirm Billing Change modal.

The Seats row on the Subscription page under Org Settings breaks down how your Seats are used, so you can see how many belong to Organization Members and how many to Sites with Guest Access enabled. Charges for extra Seats appear on your bill as Additional Seats.

A screenshot of the Confirm Billing Change modal shows a message that adding a new Organization Member will increase your monthly bill once they accept the invitation, with Cancel and Accept Billing Increase buttons.

The increased capacity from adding an extra Seat or Custom Domain takes effect immediately, as you specify the person or domain you want to add during this process. When you are billed for these Add-Ons depends on whether your Organization uses a monthly or yearly Billing Period.

If your Organization uses a monthly Billing Period, the prorated cost of your Add-Ons for that month is added to your next invoice. Your next invoice will also include the cost of your Add-Ons for the following month, and these will be billed in advance as part of your regular invoices going forward.

If your Organization uses a yearly Billing Period, you are billed the prorated cost of your Add-Ons immediately. For example, if you add an Organization Member when you are 5 months into your Subscription Plan, CloudCannon will invoice you for the remaining 7 months of the year. Your Add-Ons will then be billed in advance as part of your regular invoices going forward.

Add-On charges appear as separate line items on your invoice. For more information on reading your bill, please read our documentation on understanding your CloudCannon invoice.

How do Overages work?#

Overages are relevant if you build and host your website through CloudCannon, rather than through a third-party service. For more information, please read our documentation on what a Site build is and what web hosting is.

You can control whether Overages are enabled or disabled for your Organization, which encompasses both Build Time and Hosting Bandwidth. When Overages are enabled, your Organization is not limited to the amount in your Subscription Plan. At the end of each month, CloudCannon will invoice you for the amount of Overages you used over your Subscription Plan limit in 1-hour or 100 GB bundles, rounded up.

Most of CloudCannon's Subscription Plans include unlimited Build Time, so on those plans you are only ever invoiced for Hosting Bandwidth Overages.

If you do not have Overages enabled, and reach the resource limit in your Subscription Plan, CloudCannon will prevent you from using more.

  • When you reach your Build Time limit, CloudCannon stops running Site builds for the remainder of the month or until you enable Overages. You can still save your changes, but they will not build.
  • When you reach your Hosting Bandwidth limit, CloudCannon will stop serving the Sites on your Organization to website visitors for the remainder of the month or until you enable Overages. Instead, visitors to your website will see a hosting error message.

We recommend enabling Overages in all cases to prevent your Sites from going down.

A screenshot of the page a visitor sees when a Site reaches its Hosting Bandwidth limit shows the heading This site is currently unavailable, a message asking them to contact the site's owner for more information, and the error code FS-402-02.

How much Hosting Bandwidth do I need?

Hosting Bandwidth is the amount of data transferred from your website's servers at CloudCannon to your website visitor. The amount of data each webpage needs is measured in megabytes (MB), and mostly depends on how many image/media files are on the page and how optimized your website is. For example, a 4 MB webpage with several images or media files will serve 25,000 page views with 100 GB of Hosting Bandwidth. Most optimized webpages are smaller than this, so 100 GB will go further.

CloudCannon will warn you if your Overages are disabled. To turn Overages on or off, please read our documentation on managing your Add-Ons and Overages.

A screenshot of the Subscription page shows the Overages disabled warning, explaining that reaching your Build Time or Hosting Bandwidth limit stops changes going live and takes Sites offline, with an Enable Overages button.

You can track your Hosting Bandwidth and Build Time each month using the Usage tab on your Organization Home page or Site Dashboard. Checking these graphs regularly helps you anticipate when your Organization or Site might exceed its Subscription Plan limits and decide whether to add capacity, enable Overages, or change your Subscription Plan.

A screenshot of the Usage tab on the Site Dashboard shows the Bandwidth and Build Time graphs and tables.

Several CloudCannon Subscription Plans have unlimited Build Time. However, CloudCannon may monitor usage with regard to the fair use of CloudCannon infrastructure, in line with our Terms of Service.
