Set the Main Branch for your Project

Last modified: March 11th, 2026

Setting the Main Branch of your Project determines which branch CloudCannon will use as the default source when creating new Sites. You can set the Main Branch when you create a Project, or update it at any time in Project Settings.

To set or update the Main Branch:

  1. Click the Projects button in the App Sidebar. CloudCannon will open the Projects Browser.
  2. Select the Project you want to update by clicking on the Project Card. CloudCannon will open the Project Sites Browser.
  3. Navigate to the Repository section under the Project Settings tab.
  4. Scroll down to the Main Branch text field and enter the name of the branch you want to use as your Main Branch.
  5. Click the Update Project button.

CloudCannon will update your Project to use the new Main Branch for all new Sites when you use the Create a Site button.
