An Organization is your home base, bringing together all your resources in CloudCannon.
Each Organization contains:
- A Subscription Plan — Each Plan includes a price and a list of features, designed for teams of different sizes and requirements. All the work you do on an Organization is billed under a single invoice.
- Sites— The websites you build and publish. Copies of the same website, such as its live and draft versions, are grouped into a Project.Glossary term
Site
A website in CloudCannon that includes all the files, content, configuration, and settings needed to edit, build, and host a complete website.
- Custom Domains — The web addresses for your Sites (e.g., example.com or company.net).
- Digital Asset Managers (DAMs) — The external locations where you store your media, so you can access and reuse images and files across all your Sites.
- Inboxes — A place to collect, view, and manage all the form submissions from your Sites (e.g., "Contact Us" or "Join our Newsletter").
- Team Members — Everyone you invite to CloudCannon, whether they create content, manage your settings, or develop your Sites. Permission Groups determine which Resourceseach Team Member can access.Glossary term
Resource
Something you can interact with in CloudCannon, such as an individual Site, Pull Request settings, billing information, and more. You can determine what resources each team member can interact with using Permission Groups, including what actions they are allowed to perform: Read, Write, or Create.
Your Organization also holds shared settings that apply across everything inside it, such as your brand customization, Single Sign-On An abbreviation of Single Sign-On/Security Assertion Markup Language, SSO/SAML is an authentication method that allows users to access multiple applications with a single set of credentials. CloudCannon supports SSO/SAML for Enterprise Plan customers. With SSO/SAML, rather than logging in to CloudCannon directly, CloudCannon authenticates the user's identity using their Identity Provider software. MFA is a security method that requires users to provide two or more verification factors to access an account. CloudCannon supports MFA to enhance account security beyond just passwords. The Organization Home page shows you a summary of what's going on in your Organization, including all the resources it contains. You can open it by clicking Home in the App Sidebar.
When you create a CloudCannon account, your first Organization is usually created for you. However, if you create your account by responding to someone's invitation, CloudCannon adds you to their Organization rather than creating a new one.
How Organizations, Projects, and Sites fit together#
Organizations, Projects, and Sites form a natural hierarchy.
An Organization holds everything you do in CloudCannon. One Organization might represent a single company, group, or club — for example, a local business. That business might run two websites: their main company website (company.com) and a separate site for an outreach program they sponsor (get-involved.com). Each of these websites is a Project.
A Site is a single copy of a website, and a Project groups the copies of one website together. Depending on the size of the Organization, a Project might contain a single Site or many. As a team grows, a Project might contain a live Site that visitors see, plus a separate Site where each Team Member drafts their changes.
In short:
- An Organization holds everything.
- A Project groups the Sites that are copies of a single website, such as its live and draft versions.
- A Site is one copy of a website.
Working in multiple Organizations#
You can create, own, and be a Team Member in multiple Organizations at a time. For example, you might belong to one Organization for your company and own another for your personal work. You can switch between your Organizations or create a new Organization at any time.
In most cases, Organizations are entirely independent from one another. However, if your Organization is linked to a Partner Organization, Team Members in that Partner Organization can access yours. For more information, please read our documentation on the Partner Program.
